Let’s just get this out of the way: anyone who still thinks you aren’t supposed to wear white after Labor Day is a communist. There, I said it. White hues make up one of the prettiest palettes for winter, and offer perfect transitioning into spring. So my white jeans will stay on their hanger year-long, commies be damned. black lace & leather

Faux Leather Jacket (similar here), Lace Cami (similar here), BDG Denim Black Skinny Jeans, Steve Madden High Ankle Boots

I’ve managed to wear some variation of this outfit almost every weekend for the past several weeks. A silky black cami with lace is one of my all-time favorite layering pieces. For this look, I opted for a tight tuck into high-waisted black skinny jeans. But I also love wearing this versatile top under a under a low v-neck sweater, or with a chunky, longline cardigan, or even poking out from a flannel. Subtle lace goes a long way in any ensemble, whether it be the focal point in an edgier outfit or a peek-a-boo feature in a cozier collection.  Continue reading LACED

boyfriend jeans

The adage goes, “dress for the job you want, not the one you have.” Enter boyfriend jeans and a low bun, which is what I imagine every great fashion editor dons as she barks coffee orders to frazzled interns (I dunno just some very original scenario I dreamt up). But to be honest, boyfriend jeans are sometimes a challenge for me. My primary issue is fit: I regrettably took the word of some kid at the Georgetown Levi’s, who insisted that the cool way to wear 501s is to have them hang very low on your hips. So I did what any self-respecting shopper with crippling anxiety would do: I bought the size he recommended and took them to a tailor the next week.  Continue reading YOU HAVE BOYFRIEND (JEANS)?

applique sweater

Appliqué Sweater, Plaid Pants, Blush Velvet Booties, Kate Spade Crossbody (similar here)

Confession: I bought these blush velvet booties in the very same week that I bought my blue pair from Steve Madden. And now I’m torn between ingrained Catholic guilt, and a wannabe Cardi B lifestyle (hit the store, got ’em both, didn’t wanna choose; you feel me).  But honest to gGod, my intention was to pick the more versatile pair and return the other. And then I just…didn’t. Continue reading BUGGING OUT

Faux-Leather Jacket (similar here), Silk Scarf (similar here), H&M Top with Back Detail, Levi’s High-Waist Jeans (similar here), Loafers

This square scarf is hands-down my most versatile accessory. It adds those fancy French feels to any outfit, and the subdued colors make for easy matching. I got this posh piece from Urban Outfitters a couple years ago, and I’ve been finding new ways to wear it ever since. My favorite way (and probably the most intuitive) is in a simple knot around my neck. The trick to pulling this off is to tie it loosely enough to not look stuffy, but high enough to maintain some balance and so the ends have shape. For optimal Parisian vibes, a red lip and chic loafers are très bon (thanks Google).  Continue reading PARDON MY FRENCH

Steve Madden High Ankle Boots,  Silence + Noise Faux Leather Jacket (similar here),  AGOLDE Skinny JeansSweater, Ear Crawler (similar here)

I’m not trying to be dramatic or anything, but I think I want to be buried in these boots when I die. I’ve actually never been that much of a shoe person; I have a strong liking for loafers and tend to shy away from vibrant colors or a heel higher than 2 inches. But when I heard the Hallelujah chorus (read: saw the sale sign) that fateful day as I walked into Steve Madden, I knew. I love velvet, I love this shade of blue, I love the high ankle, and the sturdy block heel is enough to help me get over my height hang-up. Continue reading BLUE VELVET
